Spinal Decompression Therapy restores proper function to an injured disc by producing a controlled, mechanical traction on the spine using a decompression device. Using a gentle pulling motion, the device overrides the natural instinct of the muscles to tense up and spasm. Relaxed muscles allow for a better pull on the spine and therefore a healthier disc.
Patients lie on a large, computerized table where they will be comfortably secured. The table will gently pull the vertebrae away from one another, targeting the specific levels of the injured discs. This stretching creates a vacuum-like effect within the discs of the spine, pulling fluid back in and reducing the bulge. Once the disc bulge is retracted, pain will subside and the fluid in the disc will allow for healing.
